Congratulations to Maestro Tyrone Paterson on his 21st anniversary as Manitoba Opera’s Music Advisor & Principal Conductor!
At the London Concert Band, we simply know him as Ty. We are so lucky to have such a talented conductor and musician in our trombone section! Though you wouldn’t know it from his demeanor… Ty shows up with humility, grace, and even a few jokes to every rehearsal.
In his latest and 31st production with the Manitoba Opera, Maestro Paterson conducted La Bohème with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
“Maestro Tyrone Paterson skilfully leads the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra through Puccini’s lushly romantic score, in which one hit aria follows on the heels of another.”

At the opening night reception on April 5, Maestro Paterson was presented with a framed photo of one of his early performances in honour of this annniversary. Ty shared a few words, including his story about the time he "wounded" the father of Western Opera, Irving Gutman (ask him about it!).
Enjoy this article featured in the Manitoba Opera La Bohème program that outlines Maestro Paterson’s illustrious career, from starting his opera conducting career at age 25 to his new-found love for jazz.
Congratulations, Ty!
