London Concert Band will reprise its hugely successful Vintage Virtuosos competition

If you are 60 years young or older, and you always wanted to perform in front of a really good band, this is your opportunity!

Last year, on May 29, 2011, at the Aeolian Hall, the London Concert Band closed its 2010-11 season with its first Vintage Virtuosos concert, playing for a sold-out and very enthusiastic audience.

The concert was the conclusion of the Vintage Virtuosos Competition, which offered prize money totalling $2200, including a Grand Prize of $1000.

In the month before the final concert at the Aeolian Hall, the Band played a number of concerts at retirement homes and long-term care facilities, featuring one or two of the competitors at each concert.

And the overall competition was a huge success.  So the Band will do it all again this year!

We are looking for performers over 60, who are not professional musicians, to compete in four categories:  individuals or groups of five whose individual or average age is 60-69, 70-79, 80+, and a fourth class for most unusual/unique performance by anyone, 60 and over.

In early 2012, our panel of professional adjudicators will select the best competitor in each of the four categories.  These four winners will all perform at our last concert of the 2011-2012 season, at the Aeolian Hall on May 27.  The adjudicators will select the Grand Prize winner, who will receive $1000, and each of the other three category winners will receive a prize of $400.

The Vintage Virtuosos Competition is open exclusively to amateur musicians accomplished in any musical form - vocal soloists or singing group, wind quintet, string trio - even spoon players!  Anyone 60 or over can enter the competition by submitting a CD, DVD or audiotape of their own performance of a musical number, says LCB Conductor, Robert Kennedy.  The deadline is November 30.

Apart from the joy of competing, one of the great pleasures for competitors is the opportunity to front a really good community band with some 60 players.

Interested musicians must complete an application form, available from the Home page, along with their demo tape/CD/DVD and forward both to Vintage Virtuosos Competition, c/o 593 Mapledale Ave., London, ON, N5X 1H3.  LCB members are ineligible.  For more information, e-mail or visit
